DN.se Named News Site of the Year

Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter's website DN.se was named news site of the year in Internetworld's prestigious annual ranking of the 100 best sites in Sweden.

Bonnier Brands Up for Major Design Prize

2244, Sydsvenskan, DN and Klimatsmart pocket nominated for prestigious Svenska Designpriset.

When the Swedish Svenska Designpriset awards are given out on Oct. 3, book publisher 2244 och Bonnierförlagen's green paperback initiative Klimatsmart pocket could take home the prize in the print identity profile category. Both 2244 and the Klimatsmart pocket initiative worked with ad agency Hummingbirds.

DN.se as iPhone App

Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter's new DN.se iPhone app gives online extras.

Sweden's daily newspaper online DN.se is now available as an iPhone app. The app looks similar to the cell-phone site that was launched a while ago.

"The app has the same design and structure as the cell-phone site, but we've added functions that are unique to the app," says Björn Hedensjö, head of DN.se.

DN Launches New Mobile Site

Top-level navigation and unique weather icons at the surfer-friendly mobil.dn.se.

On June 16, Dagens Nyheter launched its updated mobile site.

Dagens Nyheter Releases New Apps

Dagens Nyheter's etiquette expert Magdalena Ribbing and wine connoisseur Bengt-Göran Kronstam are two popular columnists who've each gotten their own iPhone apps. Björn Hedensjö, manager for DN.se, explains.

When and how did you come up with the idea for the two new Dagens Nyheter apps and how did you develop them?

When I started at DN.se in November 2009, I checked out what databases would be appropriate for packaging in an app format, since databases quickly and relatively inexpensively can form the basis of apps. Etiquette expert Madeleine Ribbing's question and answer archive and Bengt-Göran Kronstam's wine database were two good examples.

At Sweden Social Web Camp, the country's web entrepreneurs gather to talk about the future of the Internet.

For the second year in a row, Sweden's web entrepreneurs and others interested in social media gathered together on Tjärö island on the west coast of Sweden at SSWC, Sweden Social Web Camp. Some 400 people gathered together over the weekend of Aug. 13-15 to camp, swim and take saunas - and talk about the future of the Internet. Workshops and presentations are held based on interest, and run by the participants themselves.

Since the beginning of 2010 some 60 people from different Bonnier companies came together at Bink, a new web company in new offices in Stockholm. The company is the first under the new business segment Bonnier Digital. Martin Ahrend, CEO of Bink and Mats Göthlin, CTO Bink & Bonnier Digital are in charge.

"The mission is to make profitable those Bonnier websites that are financed through advertising," says Ahrend. "But it is important to remember we are not a shared service center for the web. We work as partners and we have had different discussions with the Group's different companies. For example, di.se will be launched with our new platform within a few weeks, and ten sites from Bonnier Tidskrifter will be launched several weeks after that.
