New Magazines for the iPad on the Mag+ Platform

Popular Photography, Sound & Vision, Islands and TransWorld SKATEboarding will join Popular Science with Mag+ versions available beginning this summer.

Capitalizing on the iPad's tech-savvy early adopters, Bonnier Corporation has announced that the next two magazines to launch on the Mag+ platform in the U.S. will be Popular Photography, with its July issue, and Sound + Vision, with its June/July/August issue. Then, with the September issues, Mag+ will come to TransWorld SKATEboarding and Islands. Additional titles are expected to launch this fall.

The first magazine on the Mag+ platform, Popular Science+, will offer subscriptions beginning in early June.

The latest issue of Islands introduces new apps.

First came Islands Pictures App for the iPhone and iPad. Now, the June 2010 issue of Islands promotes the app on the cover and includes three scannable tags inside that unlock three more special apps.

"Developing our new Pictures iPhone app opened up fresh ways for our editorial team to inspire and inform our intrepid travelers," says Chris Tauber, brand manager of Islands.

ISLANDS magazine recently released a new pictures app for the iPhone. Bonnier.com has posed five questions about the app to Chris Tauber, managing editor of ISLANDS.

When did you first start planning the app and when was it launched?

I was inspired to pursue an ISLANDS app in March 2009 when I watched Apple's video presentation of the then-new iPhone OS 3.0. One screen showed an in-app purchase of a magazine subscription, and that opened my eyes to more revenue beyond maybe a 99-cent download. I bought "App for Dummies" to see how far I could get.
