Today I started my new job as Web editor for Malmö editorial. Computer and telephone were in place, but no network cable. So, the day began with a few calls to our technical support.
The past year, Sydsvenskan has conducted a project called the New Sydsvenskan. Part of the project is the redesign that is being launched on Saturday. Another part of the project is to have several web editors move out of the Web's central desk to various editorial. So as of today, I am working on Malmö editorial.
At 9:30, I got network access and could start working. The first task was to "tidy" the Malmö Division, by adding images, building "packages" of several articles, rewriting the heds and deks, opening comment feature on some articles, and adding links.
During the morning, several reporters from Malmö Editorial delivers texts to publish and to add web-specific material to. There were some shorter texts to write and photos to find, crop and post. Ideally, the Malmö Section switch top news several times a day, so that readers feel that they have to visit us often.
