Charlotte Fagerlund: From Print to Web

A Week in the Life: Our blogger tells us a little about her career and the different hats she wears as a Web editor.

After three days of blogging maybe I should introduce myself a bit more. I've worked as a journalist for 10 years. I've worked for public service radio and TV, for the Bonnier newspaper Expressen and for Sydsvenskan. Until three years ago I had mainly worked as a reporter, but then I got a new position as a web editor, a job I really like.

Being a web editor is an incredible stressful job most of the time. There's a constant flow of information from different sources to be dealt with and you want to get it out on the Web site as quickly as possible. But it's also a very varied job. You do everything from writing a story to solving technical problems. You work with pictures in Photoshop and record, cut and publish sound clips. You can take the mobile phone and go out to take the pictures you need. Or record a video and publish it. It's all about finding ways to use the possibilities of the web, so that Sydsvenskan.se doesn't just become the printed paper online.

Right now I'm still getting into my new job as web editor for the Malmö news group. My colleagues are very enthusiastic and have a lot of ideas about what to do, so it's very inspiring. To take two examples, today I booked a live chat with an expert on trams, after the success of the stories on future trams in Malmö. And we added a pdf with the whole list of names to a story on new street names in Malmö.
