Two Bonnier Corporation titles are finalists in the 45th annual National Magazine Awards, Field & Stream and Popular Science. Commonly known as the Ellies after the prize itself, an elephant sculpture by Alexander Calder, the awards are the biggest magazine prizes in the U.S. The contest is sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. The winners will be announced on April 22.
Field & Stream, which won in 2009 in the General Excellence - 1 - 2 million circulation category, is nominated again in the same category as well as in the Leisure Interests category for the article "America's Meat" from the Dec. 2009-Jan. 2010 issue.
Popular Science is competing in the Columns and Commentary category for a series of "Gray Matter" columns by Theodore Gray: "The Other White Heat," from the May issue; "Gone in a Flash," from September; and "Flash Bang," from October.
