Green Stockholm

GROW's Audrey Bay enjoys the Stockholm spring while helping Bonnierförlagen study their carbon impact.

Well, we're almost near the end of month one and time has really just flown by. There are so many things to see and experience and I've only just scratched the surface. I'm becoming more and more familiar with the city and I don't feel quite as lost as I did when I first arrived. It's now starting to get a lot warmer here, which makes it easier and more enjoyable to be outside (which is such a great place to be in Stockholm). When I'm not exploring the city in the sunshine, which by the way doesn't go down until about 10:30 these days; I'm working on an interesting project at the Bonnierförlagen offices.

Currently, I am working on an environmental research project. I have been spending my days digging up information about the company's impact on the environment when it comes to the shipping of our books. I have been comparing the different vessels that we use for the shipment of books and looking at each one's carbon emissions. Bonnier is the largest book publisher in the Nordic countries, which means that it is impossible for them to hide when environmental questions are raised. More and more companies are striving to make their products eco-friendly, and Bonnier is no exception. I will be gathering information that could be used in many different ways. It could purely be used as an informational tool in the event that the public/media want to know exactly how "eco-friendly" our printing process is. During my research, I may also find better ways to ship our books so that we have a much smaller carbon footprint.

This project is always evolving and I can't wait to see where it leads.
