For many people, the holidays are a time for thinking about others. Check out just a few of the aid projects and initiatives that Bonnier companies are undertaking - and not just during Christmas:
- At MTV Media in Finland, the TV channel Sub has a Christmas calender on its web page in cooperation with Finnish Church Aid. Via the A Different Kind of Gift online store, site visitors can give in the name of friends aid to those in catastrophe zones, development help, or even an animal for a poor family.
- At Carlsen in Germany, the book publisher works with Unicef, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Hamburg Society for the Promotion of Democracy and International Law in the building of a school in Angola. The Pixi School, which had a tie-in with the publisher's Pixi series for kids - is now finished and will provide classroom space for 805 school children.
- Field & Stream magazine in the U.S. is sponsoring the "Hero for a Day" program in which readers have sent in information about a range of on-the-ground conservation activities they will be undertaking in 2011 and Field & Stream will spread the word about selected projects and help drum up volunteers.
- At TV4 in Sweden, viewers and visitors to the website can buy gifts and send them directly to needy people worldwide this holiday season. It's part of a cooperation between TV4 and Unicef with a 24-part Christmas calendar series featuring comedian André Wickström being shown on TV4's morning news program and on tv4.se.
- Amelia, the Swedish magazine for women, sponsors Ameliahjälpen (Amelia aid), which helps in the fight for women's rights globally. The magazine works with ActionAid, which supports poor women and girls worldwide. Amelia has helped collect hygiene products for girls in Kenya and supported Indian women who work emptying latrines.
