Meet Patricia Schmid

From Germany to Florida: our GROW ambassador says everything in the U.S. really is bigger.

Hi! My name is Patricia Schmid. Actually I come from Austria, but a job offer at arsEdition, one of the biggest publishing houses of children's and gift books in Germany, made me move to Munich, Germany a few years ago. This time, my journey took a bit longer to my new working place for the next three months. I am with Bonnier Corporation in Florida as a part of the Audience Development Team.

In Munich, I am responsible not only for the web activities of arsEdition, but I also take care of the marketing campaigns we offer to the resellers and for the fairs we are visiting. So it is really exciting for me to concentrate only on the web.

My first week was simply like I hoped it would be and started with many unforgettable impressions. Everybody gave me a warm welcome here and I already had the opportunity to speak to several colleagues in my office to learn what their functions and responsibilities are. It is really exciting to learn what the similarities and differences are in working life and in real life.

I have never been to America, so the first thing I realized is that everything really is bigger—the distances, many of the cars (I have never so many Hummers), even the electrical equipment in my apartment is really big. The washing machine, for example, is twice the size of what I have at home. I have to admit that what impressed me most in my apartment is the "insinkerator for food waste". It is really funny to use it—until now I have only seen this in the movies.

My colleagues at home sent me a picture of my deserted cubicle. It was a really nice thing to do, so I just thought I should also put this in my blog. Well, my chair has to wait for a while before I am ready to come back!

Wow. Das freut mich aber für Dich!!! Bin ganz gespannt, was Du zu berichten weißt.

Du bist also allgegenwärtig. Alex kommt am Abend. Alles Gute Manfred und Inge
