MTV3.fi Relaunches Front Page

After a year of discussion and planning, MTV3.fi has a new front page. MTV3’s Petteri Ruotsalainen explains why.

MTV3.fi has gotten a new face. "After years of compromises and 'quick fixes' to sudden needs from different departments in the entire MTV Media company, we launched a new front page on August 16," says Petteri Ruotsalainen, managing editor for online content at MTV Media, the company behind Finland's largest commercial TV station, MTV3. "The goal was to find an answer to problems that plague the old front page. The end result is structurally more harmonic and soothing to the eye, and - hopefully - both the content in all its various forms and the advertising are now placed on the front page in a logical manner so that they can be easily accessed."

The redesign of the front page had been under discussion for a year, but it took about six to seven months for the actual process of analyzing the old solutions with the help of web analytics, creating a new concept, developing a new user interface and design as well as the coding, Ruotsalainen says.

As for reaction to the new front page, so far it's been exceptionally positive, Ruotsalainen says. "Obviously we are also considering critical responses and will follow data from web analytics closely over the following weeks and months," he says. "If something doesn't work, we will adjust the new front page accordingly. The biggest challenge, though, is prioritizing things. There is always going to be a lot more content and services produced than there is room for on the front page."
