The first in a series of e-books, SAVEUR: Easy Italian, was released on December 6 for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. It is currently available only at the Apple iBookstore, but will eventually be for sale on Kindle and Nook as well. SAVEUR: Easy Italian quickly hit the No. 3 spot in the Cooking, Food, and Wine category. The title features 30 recipes for classic dishes that are simple to prepare, using ingredients likely found already in your pantry, including minestrone soup, pastas, and panna cotta. The e-book also features Saveur's signature photography, with shots of culinary Italy and Italian America, as well as a comprehensive pantry section and suggestions for optimal wine pairings. The subject was chosen as the first Saveur e-book in part because of its universal appeal.
"We wanted to create a book that everyone could use, from the advanced home cook to people batting around in the kitchen for the first time," says Saveur Editor-in-Chief James Oseland. This is just the first in a series of Saveur e-books. Staff members have brainstormed "mountains of ideas," says Oseland, which will capitalize on the magazine's well-rounded culinary expertise, wonderful photography, and delicious recipes, and share them in a clean and crisp e-book format with the magazine's growing digital audience.
Every one of Saveur's staff members was involved in the creation of SAVEUR: Easy Italian, including executive editor Dana Bowen, who spearheaded the editorial direction of the e-book, in part inspired by Saveur's December 2011 Italian-American package, as well as executive food editor Todd Coleman, who not only selected most of the recipes, but photographed them as well. "The goal is to give the digital audience a taste of the Saveur brand," says Oseland. "This is just the beginning."
