Svensk Filmindustri is filming The Hypnotist

Scandinavian major Svensk Filmindustri has acquired the rights to film the Swedish crime novel hit The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler.

The Hypnotist is a co-production between Svensk Filmindustri and Sonet Film, producers Börje Hansson and Peter Possne. The principal shooting of the movie will commence in 2010/2011.

The crime novel The Hypnotist was published earlier this year at Albert Bonniers Förlag, and soon became the number one best seller at the Swedish book chart. Before even published in Sweden, the novel was sold on the international market and will by now be published in over 30 countries, including the US and UK markets.

The Hypnotist is the first novel in a planned series with the main character Detective Inspector Joona Linna. The second novel in the series will be published in 2010. SF has also acquired the option to film the new yet to be published novels. The author name Lars Kepler is a pseudonym for Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril.

"The fast and suggestive tempo in films that are really thrilling has been the biggest inspiration for us when writing about Joona Linna. Just the thought of The Hypnotist being filmed makes us both happy and thrilled," says Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril.

"The Hypnotist is a very thrilling and cinematically told story with a lot of suspense, and I am convinced that the film will be fantastic. We are happy and proud that Alexandra and Alexander has chosen us as their partner in this project," says Tobias Lennér, MD at Svensk Filmindustri in Sweden.
