Tine at the Zoo

From Denmark to Australia: GROW blogger Tine's partner and daughter join her in Sydney.

Finally, it was time to go to the fabulous Taronga Zoo of Sydney. My daughter of 5 and partner have come to Sydney to be with me for the next month and what is more obvious than to go to the zoo when you have children.  In Australia, they have chosen to give the animals the best location in Sydney with the most spectacular view of the city.

Out of all the animals, the giraffes have the most brilliant spot. They stand on the top shelf and have the best view of Sydney.  The zoo is placed on one of the many peninsulas in the Sydney harbor and we took a ferry from Circular Quay out to Taronga Zoo.  For some reason this scenery reminded me of the movie Madagascar with all the characters.

Our favorite part of the day was a show with eagles, huge birds that swoop meters above the audience's heads before landing on the trainer's arm. My partner and daughter wanted to watch it again but there were too many other things to see!

When we got there, you don't just walk in like any other zoo, you take a sky lift high in the air that takes you up the very top of the hill and you then start from up there and walk your way down, visiting koalas, kangaroos, monkeys and apes, lions, hippopotamuses, reptiles, and many more. The silverback apes were very entertaining when they was fighting over the food and showing off at the same time. But the koalas were absolutely the cutest I have ever seen.

An interesting fact—koalas don't drink water. They get all their mositure from the eucalyptus leaves. But recently during the Australian bushfires, koalas were so dehydrated, there were photos of them accepting bottles of water from the firemen!  Slide show: Tine at the Zoo

This has been the best experience ever!!!

Hey Tine, it was so good to have you here with us in Sydney, you brought a really fresh perspective to our design work and we all hope to see you again sometime in the not-too-distant future! Have fun on your travels and tell Ursula I said that I still remember the names of the colours in Danish! Tx
