Everything was about passion at Winterviken in Stockholm, the scene for GRID10 on Sept. 6-7. From innovative typeface design to unthinkable chocolate combinations, a language invented for Avatar to a Bach violin sonata, some 250 Bonnier employees had plenty to be inspired by.
GRID, which has been held annually since 2008 and is exclusively for Bonnier employees from all parts of Bonnier, is more than a conference. "For me GRID10 was a hotbed of passion and potential and certainly an experience that made me remember that we can all touch the stars if we want to," says Nikki Sørensen Digital Media Manager at SF Film A/S Denmark.
The event was held at Alfred Nobel's former gunpowder factory just outside Stockholm city, and speakers included media queen Martha Stewart, Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert and Alec Ross, adviser to Hillary Clinton. Plus linguist Paul Frommer, hi-tech magician Seth Raphael, graphic design innovator Marian Bantjes, chocolatier Katrina Markoff, physicist Anders Ynnerman, violinist Robert Gupta, user experience expert Margaret Stewart, mind-reader Henrik Fexeus and doctor and humanitarian Rick Hodes.
GRID is about more than just inspiring speakers, however. There were workshops, entertainment, food and plenty of time to network with specially planned "Dating" sessions for people to meet one-on-one. "The participants are the most important speakers," says Stefan Mehr, curator for GRID. "They talk to each other all the time during GRID, and it's clear from the overwhelming response that they speak about meaningful things. When skeptical media folks twitter that they cry or that the experience of GRID changed their life, then we can only feel very grateful and humble. It's just wonderful to see people open up and connect."
