This week has been raining really hard, stormy weather and first tornado alert while I have been here. When I decided to give up and buy an umbrella yesterday after work, we got a clear sky. So, buying the umbrella worked for a day but today it looks like I can put it to use again.
Time has gone by really fast. I have getting myself familiarized with direct mail and how things are organized in general. There definitely are some differences between here and back at home but mostly I believe they stem from the plain fact that consumer business is nothing new here at Bonnier Corporation, though it is fairly new for us at MTV3 and internet services. I have been doing some research about the Web sites, each magazine's digital format in Zinio and online subscriptions. I find it very interesting to see how the magazines and brands are turned into web content and how digital and print formats are related and interpreted.
The offices of Bonnier Corp. at the Winter Park Village are scattered in three different buildings and referred to as eight different zones. The company has been growing a lot recently and soon I guess it will dominate all the second floor space above the restaurants and shops inside this block. From the outside, the existence of Bonnier isn't obvious. I wonder why there isn't a bigger company sign or ad space to promote titles outside.
But I'm at zone 7 and sit in a cubicle, which I have seen in the movies. I have worked in a open area in Finland, but the arrangements of the desks and the office space are more versatile and decorated, made to support the work of a certain team. This works here, though, and the space is effectively used. People seem to have a code of conduct; they speak low if they speak, and tones of the phones are turned down or they are not receiving any calls ;). Well, I always have had difficulties speaking in a low voice, so now it is time to start learning that as well.
