Competing with 2,000 photographers and 45,000 photos, photographer Paul Hansen of Sweden’s No. 1 morning paper Dagens Nyheter<\/em> won the Newspaper Photographer of the Year award from Pictures of the Year International<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It feels great, it gives me a little respite \u2013 I’m so happy when people contact me and praise my photos. So this is a huge acknowledgement that Dagens Nyheter is in the same class as the New York Times and Getty Images,” Hansen said in an interview in Dagens Nyheter.<\/p>\n

The award isn’t the first Hansen has won for his photos. The past year he won in the international news category of the Swedish Photo of the Year<\/a> awards and in the same category for the U.S. equivalent, Best of Photo Journalism<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
