The Swedish Grand Prize for Journalism winners 2025 are…
This year’s winner of the Great Journalist Prize was crowned during an awards ceremony at Bonniers Konsthall earlier tonight.
The Swedish Grand Prize for Journalism was established by Bonnier in 1966 and was awarded this year for the 59th consecutive year. The award, worth 100,000 Swedish kronor is given in five categories, Scoop of the Year, Storyteller of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Voice of the Year and Lukas Bonnier’s Grand Prize for Journalism.
Below are the winning entries, as well as the jury’s motivation.
Storyteller of the Year
Liza Alexandrova-Zorina: The Land of the Serfs
Motivation: With total presence and a curious gaze, she guides the reader into a world that most of us don’t even see. Even though it is right in front of our eyes.
Innovator of the Year
Gilda Hamidi-Nia and Linda Hörnqvist: Gaza – to the last breath, SVT. In collaboration with Jayyab Abusafia, Salem El Rayyes and Ahmed Al Danaf.
Motivation: When journalists are not allowed into Gaza, SVT instead sends body-worn cameras to civilians. A new approach and unique insight into a closed war zone where we get close to the fight for hope and survival.
Voice of the Year
Messiah Hallberg
Motivation: With courage, sharpness and comic precision, week after week he sheds light on the bizarre, the outrageous and reveals something new about our times.
Scoop of the Year
Hugo Lindkvist and Kristoffer Örstadius: The Landerholm Affair, Dagens Nyheter
Motivation: With solid journalistic work, the scandal surrounding the national security advisor’s negligence in a troubled time is revealed.
Lukas Bonniers Great Journalist Prize
Katarina Gunnarsson
Motivation: From the quiet of the mill town to the exclusion of the suburban square, from the loneliness on the bench in a public housing center to the struggle to be allowed into a new society that can easily exclude. For over three decades, she has constantly pointed her microphone away from power and given us the voices that would otherwise have been forgotten in the shadows.
The awards ceremony was led by this year’s host, journalist, presenter and SVT correspondent Fouad Youcefi. This year’s international guest was Marek Walkuski – radio journalist, author, academic lecturer and long-time correspondent for Polish public service radio in the USA. He has covered every American election since the turn of the millennium, written four best-selling books about the country, and has been chairman of the White House Foreign Press Group since 2024.
