German Acquisition of Bloomsbury

German book publisher Bonnier Media Deutschland, has entered into an agreement to acquire Bloomsbury Verlag from parent company Bloomsbury in the U.K. Under the agreement, Bonnier Media Deutschland will have the rights to the Bloomsbury Berlin brand as well as rights publish German editions of books from Bloomsbury authors such as Khaled Hosseini, William Boyd and Ben Schott.

“Our success lies in the success of our authors,” says Hartmut Jedicke, CEO for Bonnier Media Deutschland. “The cooperation between [our subsidiary] Piper and Bloomsbury is built on this common principle. We believe the successful combination of Bloomsbury’s excellent international authors, Piper’s strong position in the German market and the creative team in Berlin will bring special voices in German to the fore. And it will benefit our readers and authors – as well as us.”

In April, Bonnier and Bloomsbury will announce a special cultural cooperation in Berlin: the Bloomsbury Bonnier Institute. Like its counterpart, the Bloomsbury Institute in London, it will organize author events, readings, discussions and other literary offerings.
