New Editor-in-Chief for Sydsvenskan and Bonnier News creates new business area for local news media

New Editor-in-Chief for Sydsvenskan and Bonnier News creates new business area for local news media

Jonas Kanje becomes new Editor-in-Chief and responsible publisher at Sydsvenskan. He will take up his position on May 11 and will succeed Pia Rehnquist, who will become publicist in a new business area within Bonnier News.

Jonas Kanje joined Sydsvenskan in 2013 and worked as a news manager until 2016 when he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Helsingborgs Dagblad. He has since been a member of HD-Sydsvenskan corporate management.

– There is a very strong demand for independent and qualified journalism. The newspaper industry is tough, but in recent years Sydsvenskan has consistently increased the number of paying subscribers. A clear acknowledgment that we are on the right path and that it is in journalism that we have both our roots and our future,” says Jonas Kanje.

Jonas Kanje succeeds Pia Rehnquist, who has held the role as the Editor-in-Chief at Sydsvenskan for the longest period of time during the 2000s.

– It has been a privilege to lead this editorial team and our being able to achieve the success we’ve had with reader revenues. I am really proud of all our employees and all our fantastic journalism,” she says.

Pia Rehnqvist’s new assignment within Bonnier News is as Publicist Head of the new business area Bonnier News Local. The new role includes ensuring that all local media are at the forefront, and to handle the overall editorial coordination for the local brands.

The new business area Bonnier News Local includes the operations of Hall Media, HD-Sydsvenskan and MittMedia. Mikael Nestius is to become Business Area Manager for Bonnier News Local.
