August Prize to The Boys
Jessica Schiefauer’s Pojkarna (The boys) won Sweden’s prestigious book award, the August Prize 2011 for the Swedish children’s and young adult book of the year. The prize was announced yesterday at a ceremony in Stockholm. The jury wrote that “boy country is infiltrated with a sharp and revealing girl’s point of view. A novel of ideas that attempts to break boundaries of language, growing up and reality. Of the body as a battleground and masculinity as a drug.” The book is published by Bonnier Carlsen.
The winners receive SEK 100,000 each and a bronze statuette by artist Mikael Fare.
