Bonnier Bookery Signs Top Authors

Bonnier Bookery Signs Top Swedish Authors

Bonnierförlagen’s digital-first book publishing initiative, Bonnier Bookery, has announced a roster of 20 authors who have signed contracts for e-books and audiobooks to be published in 2018.

Among the authors announced are Jonas Bonnier, Malin Persson Giolito, Johan Theorin  and Anna Jansson. In addition, Marit Danielsson, Anna Fredriksson, Pernilla Glaser, Emma Hamberg, Anders de la Motte, Per Naroskin, Sara Paborn, Linda Skugge and Sigrid Tollgård, Viveca and Camilla Sten, and Katarina Wennstam have also signed.

“The response to Bonnier Bookery has been fantastic, and we’re planning a launch at the beginning of the new year,” says Åsa Selling, head of Bonnier Bookery. “We’ve identified new opportunities for storytelling and packaging and we’re ridiculously happy to get this affirmation that more and more authors want to write for digital formats and appreciate the creative challenge. Today there’s a big audience on digital platforms who both crave new stories from their favorite authors and also dare to try out new authors.”

Says Malin Persson Giolito, author of the international bestseller Quicksand: “The only thing I’ve known for a long time now is that I absolutely don’t want to write about terrorism. So when Åsa Selling approached me to write about terrorism, I said yes immediately. That’s how it works for me. Those stories that I assume are the worst to write, I just can’t let them go. I think also it’s going to be fun to write in a shorter format, and it will be exciting to see how a digital release will be received.”

Bonnier Bookery started in April and expects to publish 25 titles during 2018, with the first coming in January. A significant part of the list will consist of new formats that are adapted to the behaviors of readers and listeners in the digital world. For example, serials and series, as well as shorts such as novellas and shorter non-fiction books within personal development, true crime and reportage that require just 1-2 hours of listening time.

All the titles will be released both as e-books and audiobooks, and will be available from all retailers who sell digital books.
